What Causes Chest Tightness, Pain Under The Ribs And Excessive Burping?

default
Posted on Fri, 27 May 2016
Question: Hello. I have two longstanding conditions. 1) Gallstones and 2) Hiatus hernia. I am wondering which one is more likely the cause of certain symptoms I have been experiencing.

Recently,, after large meals I have been experiencing symptoms related to burning tightness all the way around my breastbone. Like a tight band. I also feel need to burp excessively. This goes on a for a few hours maybe up to a day.

Another symptom is a dull burning ache on my right side under the ribs. Minor tenderness but negative XXXXXXX sign when I visited doctor. This is ongoing.

I originally thought both symptoms were due to gallbladder problems but now I am not so sure. When I have had gallstone attacks in past, Biliary colic, it is usually intense cramping pain down my right side which prevents me from sleeping or finding a comfortable position, but usually passes after a few hours.

The symptoms I described earlier do not prevent me from sleeping or going about my daily activities. Nor am I feeling unwell. No fever, no nausea, no loss of appetite.

Could the breastbone tightness, burning ache in abdomen, and burping, be related to hiatus hernia instead? Or more likely gallstones? Or maybe muscle pain?

Brief Answer:
Both are responsible

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Your symptoms of chest tightness, pain under right XXXXXXX eof th erib, excessive burping and mostly after heavy meals is all attributed to the GERD / acid reflux secondary to hiatal hernia. Associated gall stones have worsened the condition and made the pain more aggravating and repeated frequent.

You need to manage both these conditions. Get gall bladder out via minimal invasive surgery and discuss the extent of hiatal hernia with the doctor. If the conservative therapy can fix well and good otherwise you will need surgical correction. Till then eat small frequent meals, avoid spices, fatty foods, dairy products.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
