What Causes Chest Pain?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Oct 2014
Question: Hi. A couple of months ago I had an EDG done as I was getting chest pains on my right chest by breastbone and pain and tenderness in my back. it came out that I had acute esophagitis. I had biopsy and tissue showed inflammation and nothing else. i also have gastritis. I believe this was caused by induced vomiting as I wanted to lose a few pounds. (stupid on my part) I was put on omeprazole and ranitidine 300mg. they took me off of omeprazole because I told them i had a history of borderline osteoporosis. So now i am on sucralfate and ranitidine. I am still having this chest pain and was wondering how long this is going to last. The stress of me being so stupid and having these chest pains is driving me nuts. I had EKG and that was fine. I made some life style changes. Are the meds I am sucralfate and ranitidine good meds? Also, wwhat foods should i be eating and not eating. how long will this constant chest pain last? every once in awhile i feel tightness in my neck and a lump in my throat. I am really getting annoyed with this as it isnt getting better and is stressing me out. Thanks so much in advance

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern. See if you have gastritis and oesophagitis proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole are the best. However Ranitidine is also useful but Pantoprazole has superior ulcer healing properties.
I don't support that Pantoprazole needs to be stopped just because you have borderline osteoporosis. A very long term use aggravates the problem.
I would recommend h.pylori treatment for you. If after Endoscopy Rapid Urease Test was done and it was negative then you don't need h.pylori treatment. Else it should be given to you.
You can also take Calcium and Vitamin De supplements with it to help your osteoporosis.
Avoid any pain killers in case you take for Osteoporosis or any other pain.
Avoid alcohol and smoking in case you do.
Take soft bland diet.
Discuss with your doctor about staring you on h.pylori regimen.
I hope I am able to solve your query. If you have any further questions please ask me.
