What Causes Chest Pain With Normal ECHO And Stress Test?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Dec 2014
Question: Hello,

I have a shunt, that no one can locate, I have had chest pain for 8 years and i also have homeostasis, I seem to get a strange leaking sound coming from my chest like there is a hole and water is escaping. I have had Echo and Stress test and also Cardiac MRI without finding the cause of the pain - I have had a positve O2 shunt study (actually three of them) and I have low ABG's - I have a cardiac fat pad (or could that be something else)..

I was wondering if there is another test for shunt of the heart other than radiation options - I have had too many CT angio's they are often abnormal with only one side perfused properly, but never any signs of issue, I do have positve D Dimer, high plasma fibrinogen, but no other issues other than the low O2

Brief Answer:
The next step to evaluate cardiac shunts is cardiac catheterization...

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking to HCM!

The next step to evaluate cardiac shunts is cardiac catheterization (hemodynamic study of the heart). This invasive procedure will find the right diagnosis and etiology of cardiac shunt.

Cardiac catheterization will measure pressure and oxygen levels in different parts of your heart (hemodynamic assessment) and will determine where the shunt is and will help in finding what has caused it (etiology).

Unfortunately for you it will need x rays, but this study is necessary for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Hope you will find this information helpful!
