What Causes Chest Pain Along With Dizziness When Suffering From Gastritis?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: I am a 33 year old female recovering from chronic superficial gastritis.

Amongst other problems (enlarged left liver lobe and pappilary calcification of kidneys as well as a 26mm IVC), I have been experiencing tachydardia (136 bpm resting) and a heart beat of over 100 during the day. It fluctuates a lot, 136 being the highest so far. I have been on Brazepam 6 mg a day for 3 months and have been tapering it (currently on 3 mg a day) for the last 3 weeks.

I also take Omeprazole 20mg a day for my stomach.

My heart is bothering me a lot since I am experiencing chest pains, pins and needles in the extremeties and extreme fatigue and dizziness. This started long ago, but corrects itself now and then. Last week I ate bread, after which I developed an extremely painful swelling in my right upper quadrant. I have also had extreme groin pain. Straight after these symptoms went away I have been experiencing the extreme tachycardic symptoms.

My GP tends to brush me off because I do suffer from anxiety attacks. They are under control now. He prescribed Pur Bloka 20mg twice a day, but I am too scared to take these since I suffer from low blood pressure. I have a history of recreational drug and alcohol use, and I smoke 20 cigarettes a day.

Please help me with advice - I am so scared of dying.

Brief Answer:
Run cardiac tests first...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

It is common to have tachycardia and palpitations when experiencing stomach problems. However, further tests are needed to exclude heart problems first :
- ECG
- Cardiac ECHO
- Stress test
- Holter monitoring

If no heart problems are present, then tachycardia is related to stress and normal reaction to stomach problems.

Taking into account your history of smoking and using the recreational drugs, using pur bloka is a good treatment to start with.

It is a beta blocker that will help stabilize your heart rate, improving tachycardia.
It won't affect your blood pressure plus it will help with anxiety.

Wish fast recovery!

Hello doctor

I am just wondering. Have taken the Pur Bloka yesterday, and felt extremely sick from it. As if there was a block of cement in my intestines.

Could it be the withdrawal from Bromezapam that are causing the symptoms? (6mg a day down to 3mg a day in 14 days) The Bromezapam was seeming to work well to carry me through the process of dealing with the gastritis. My gastritis is almost cured, I hardly ever experience pain from it. Also, does Bromezapam use cause tachycardia at all?

I am very worried - cannot get an appointment at a cardiologist until next week. Can I have a heart attack or stroke with my heartbeat being so fast? (136 bmp resting)

Thank you so much for your previous answer.

Brief Answer:
Don't worry no heart attack or stroke will happen

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

The use of Pur Bloka (propanolol) may worsen gastritis. My advice is to avoid propanolol use for the moment. In stead of propanolol I would like to recommend a more selective B1 blocker like bisoprolol.

I don't think that bromazepam use is the cause of tachycardia. Stress and anxiety for which you are taking bromazepam is the caise of tachycardia.

You shouldn't worry about a heart attack or stroke, nothing will happen to you.

Wish you health!
