What Causes Chest Pain After Choking On Meat?

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Aug 2015
Question: I swallowed a piece of fried pork and tried washing it down with wine. I believe it went down the wrong pipe. I can breathe fine. Just my chest really hurts even to take a deep breath or yawn. My mouth keeps salivating non stop. I tried coughing up the meat even forcing myself to vomit. Food did come up but I don't feel better. Sipping water hurts going down. Even swallowing own saliva hurts. Please help. Thanks

Brief Answer:
It can be most likely esophagitis caused by swallowing meat.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to esophagitis caused by swallowing meat. Your symptoms more match for this. But better to rule out impaction on meat particle in bronchi by consulting an ENT specialist. X ray chest followed by auscultation will be helpful to get signs for this.

In case of positive signs for particle lodging in bronchi bronchoscopy will be helpful to remove it. If that is clear then it can be treated as esophagitis. Lozenges with anesthetic will be herlpful in such case. Short course therapy with proton pump inhibitors like esomeprazole also should be taken.

Avoid spicy and hot foods. Carbonated drinks and smoking should be avoided also.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if any thing not clear.
Thanks.
