Brief Answer:
Could be due to neuropathy

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

Burning sensation in wrist suggests neuropathy. The reason may be due to defeciency of nutrients or due to vascular compromise or due to any pressure effect.
1. So you can take multi vitamin supplements consisting of pyridoxine, methyl cobalamine with pregabalin. This supplements will help you in the prevention of symptoms.
2. Along with these you need to have nutritious diet consisting of fruits and green leafy vegetables and more fluids
3. Daily out door exercises (150 min per week).

For diagnosing if any pressure effect you can get done nerve conduction test and MRI in cervical region. This will help in confirming if any pressure effect on the nerves. Till then continue with the above said measures. If any problem or if the above measures fails to stop symptoms then consult your doctor for examination once and further management.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Take care

I did have a c-spine injury. Several years ago I had 2 c-spine fusions, 1 included the placement of a plate along with bone from my hip, the second surgery was the removal of that plate in addition to placing rods and again bone from my other hip. As I mentioned, that was several years ago - I believe around 1996 & 1998, which up until recently, besides occassional aches I was managing that just fine. However this past July 8th, I ended up in an emergency room due to severe muscles spasms down the right side of my neck and into my shoulder. I could not move my head without experiencing severe pain from the spasm. I was treated at the e/r with a couple of injections (I believe was for pain) and valiums. After a few days of bed rest, 800mg of motrin and warm heating pad I was up an about as usual however I have notice since then I have been experiencing a twitching sensation as the base of my head/skull (usually when I lay down) in addition to the burning sensations in my wrists. Of course the e/r recommended me to follow up with ortho or neuro specialists (I am not sure which) however, I have not, I felt like these things were minor symptoms compared to what I had experienced years ago. I really do not want to take meds and do not want to have surgery, so I feel like - what else would a doctor be able to do for me? However after reading your advice concerning my nerves, I am now a little bit more concerned. Do you think I could have somehow reinjured my neck (I do not recall any trauma to that area recently, I tripped over a trash can and fell to the ground several months ago but did not experience any immediate pain or complications)? And if so, how serious could it be? If so, would your recommendations still be helpful to me and my current symptoms? I currently do the 2nd and 3rd of your recommendation but I do not take the vitamin. Thank you for your response.

Brief Answer:
Description below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Due to compression of nerve root in cervical spine there is tingling and burning sensation and pain associated with it. It could be due to degenerative -spondylottic changes of the cervical spine.
I will advise you to MRI cervical spine for better diagnosis.

For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic like pregabalin and methylcobalamin medication can be started consulting your doctor.
Till time, avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back. You can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief.

Wishing you good health..

Warm regards.

Hi,
I am having problems finding a multivitamin which contain all of the ingredients in which you stated above. Do you know of any off-hand which would give me the benefits of all of the above?
The closest I found was a one a day womens multivitamin/multimineral supplement 50+. This one a day contains many ingredients but listed close to your recommendations were...Pyridoxine, Cyanocobalamin (not methyl-cobalamin) but no pregabalin. Is the cyanocobalamin the same as methlycobalamin? Where can I find pregabalin? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Methylcobalamin in superior form.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Both are form of vit B12. Methylcobalamin in superior form. I generally prescribe Pregaba- M containing pregabalin and methylcobalamin.

Pregabalin is a prescription only medicines. So I guess your treating doctor will know about it.
