What Causes Burning Sensation In The Eyeball?

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Dec 2016
Question: I have burning in my right eyeball. It feels inflamed. This has gone on for over a day. I also now have a headache and it feels like the top of my right sinus is a little affected, but I think it is my eyeball like the outside covering of my eyeball. I haven't gotten poked in the eye or anything. Do I have a virus or an infection of some type? My eye does not itch at all. It doesn't really look much different from my other eye. It is not really draining or anything except when I put in the drops. It doesn't feel extra light sensitive either.
My eye is now light sensitive and is tearing up.
I have had an ulcer before on this eye due to dry eye and waking up one morning and when opening my eye- it took outer covering off of part of my eye or produced an abrasion.
I have a scar from this.

Brief Answer:
burning eye ball is due to associated problem like dry eye, blepharitis.

Detailed Answer:
Burning eye ball is related to other problem like blepharitis, dry eye, pink eye, allergic conjunctivitis.Need to be examined by ophthalmologist for proper diagnosis.Sinusitis is not related to eye problem.Dry eye if not treated will lead to corneal erosion.May further lead to ulcer & it will produce photo sensitiveness. This can be resulted from prolonged use of contact lens or excessive exposure to computer.Due to lack of blinking tear film dries down and leads to dry eye and all complication. So it is advised to take break in between and blink .Go near window and look outside. You can also apply refresh tear eye drop and use anti glare specs which protects eyes from glaring rays.Tear secretion should be tested by strip test, pjogrens syndrome should be excluded.Since it will have lack of all secreation. Pink eye is self limiting like viral conjuctivitis. For blepharitis eye lid should be cleaned by sterile swab and apply neosporine eye ointment. Allergic conjunctivitis will be associated with itching. With treatment of associated causes the condition will improve.
