What Causes Burning Sensation In The Abdomen While On Nexium?

default
Posted on Sat, 14 Jan 2017
Question: I take 40 mg of nexium every morning but I seem still get a slight stomach burning sensation late morning afternoon. I take a zantac and it knocks the burning sensation out. Is nexium not working anymore or why does the zantac easse the burning. Im recovering from GERD/gastritis/ulcer caused by excessive antibiotic use, which caused an over abundance of acid production several months ago. My GI has also put me on Carafate. He thinks since Im improving since my symptoms have improved, though it has been awhile. My endoscopy last year was normal and he does not see a need to do another right now since im shwoing improvement and he said I do not have infection since it was cured with the two months of anitbiotics I was on for a sinus infection this summer.

Brief Answer:
Hi not much to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
Thank you for your query.
I understand your concern.
Well it does happen sometime that the efficacy of neksium might reduce slightly with time and Zantac which has a different mode of action may help in such situations.
Worthwhile reducing the dose of neksium to 20 MG once in morning before breakfast and taking Zantac at night.
In addition worthwhile trying following things and see how you feel.
Regular exercise.
Go for a regular walk.
Avoid eating too much at a time.
Avoid sleeping two hours after meals.
Avoid pain killers if any.
Avoid stress which is most important.
All this will help you in long run too.
Carafate is not of much use can think of stopping it.
Hope this answers your questions.
Wish you a speedy recovery.
Happy to help.

Since Nexium may not be working as good...do you think taking 20mg of nexium before breakfast and one zantac after breakfast to supplement it. Then another at night before bed okay. So it sounds like Nexium is not as good anymore and thats why im getting the stomach burning. Also can I drink decaffienated tea in moderation1-2 cups a day?
So the burning is still acid that is nit controlled. Maybe I should just zantac only and slowly drop out nexium over a week. If zantac works then I rather take it than nexium. Maybe thats why its not healing as fast as it could be because nexium is not efficient anymore. Your thought Sir? I do excercise and take no painkillers. I take busbar for my anxiety , I tend to get strssed easily over this situation. If i could get the mild burn to go away And stay away I be would estatic. Just want to add some more food types back into my diet. And drink my tea which i miss. Thank you Doc for your time!!! It helps me to understand.

Hi, Welcome back,

See, you can take only Zantac and see how you feel.
