Posted on Mon, 26 Oct 2015
Question: I've had an inflamed feeling burning pain in the back of my RIGHT knee that is now radiating to the back and inner thigh and the groin. I could literally feel it moving up. In the last 6 months I've had fluid drained from a popleatel cyst in my LEFT knee. But this feels a little different. The previous one was just has swelling and a little painful. Help.

Brief Answer:
Nerve related pain likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The burning pain feeling at the back of the knee radiating to thigh and groin is likely to be a nerve related pain. The nerve compression could be at the level of spine due to mild disc bulge. An MRI scan will help in proper diagnosis.
Due to the Disc bulge pressure occurs on nerve roots & radiation of pain occurs in that dermatotome. Physiotherapy like intermittent lumbar traction , back exercise reduces pressure of disc bulge for some time & gives relief.

The following measures will help with the pain
• Lie on a hard bed.
• Anti -inflammatory drugs like Tablet Motrin 1 tablet as and when required ( dont repeat a dose before 6 hours) with food.
• Avoid forward bending.
• Correct your posture while sitting
• Avoid prolonged sitting
• Avoid strenuous activity & lifting heavy weights.
Vitamin B12 supplements & Pregabalin may be helpful in controlling the neuropathic pain.
I hope this answers your query.
