hi marg,

Burning and soreness in perineal region can be due to many causes, right from bacterial, viral and fungal infections to anal fissure or thrombosed piles.
Can you locate to a point where exactly is pain located, as perineum is a broad area. superficial or deep? can you see any warts or ulcers or cracks? Does pain get provoked by stools or constipation?

Brief Answer:
topical antibacterial mucosal gels may help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
This suggests a small ulcer in that area, which could be easily missed by a naked eye. Many of these spontaneously subside. Simultaneously, you may try topical antibacterial mucosal gels and oral drug like brufen for 3-4 days.
If there seems no response, you may need a gynecologist consultation for examination of pertinent areas like labial commisures and navicular fossa to find any bartholin gland infection or focal ulcerations or erythema.

Hope this helps.
