What Causes Bumps On Skin After Weight Loss?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014
Question: I have lost a bit of weight after gastric sleeve surgery. Now my upper arms and thighs in particular seem to be very bumpy, I can feel small deposits under my skin.

Is this something that will eventual tone down, or am I stuck with this forever. Previously when skin was stretched due to excess weight it was a solid feel over all my body, not lumpy.

I do not have loose skin, as weight was gradually lost. It doesn't affect my health but I just want to know if there is anything I can do besides toning exercises, or if a part of what happens with large body fat loss at older age.

I went from 95kg to 73kg in 5 months. Still another 10kg to loose. I have not exercised because of other body injuries presently and will have to do so very lightly.

Brief Answer:
make the suggested changes

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Welcome to healthcare Magic!
The excessive fat in the dermis and hypodermis when moved acutely will leave such bumpy appearance which may give an appearance of excessive aging.
It will be better if you reduce further weight at a slower pace say 5kg in a year.
Toning exercises are okay and should be continued but also do jogging or at least brisk walking twice a day covering 5 kilometers in 50 minutes.
It will help smoother mobilisation of fat from skin.
I hope the advise would be informative and useful for you.

I mentioned the toning meaning stretching and weights, as this is what I can do. Unfortunately I just had ankle surgery and have long term inability to jog/walk brisk (since a teenager) - so that form of exercise is not an option.

Are you indicating that cardio is what will help further remove these fat deposits (lumpiness) I am feeling?

Once that bumpy appearance forms due to sudden weight loss, is it treatable without surgery in other words :)

Brief Answer:
consult a local orthopedic physiotherapist

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back.
I see, there is serious issue with mobility limitations.
You need a tailor made exercise patterns and plan in that case.
A local orthopedic physiotherapist can advise many things for you apart from jogging.
I think you should give your body time to adjust and reduce rate of weight loss from here onwards.
Surgery is a poor option for such issues.
Take care.
