What Causes Bumps On Penis And Penis Shaft?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Sep 2014
Question: Hi, I'm a 22 year old XXXXXXX male. I have a couple lumps and bumps on my penis and penis shaft that I am not sure again. First, I have some bumps on my penis shaft that I can pop and a small white ball comes out of it. After I pop them the bump goes away within 2 days. Second, I have this purple/red lump on my circumcision scar. It does not hurt or does not have a cauliflower shape but it seem to be getting bigger. Third, is a red-like rash like bumps on the tip of my penis. They also do not hurt, at times they itch and slightly burn but they mostly go unnoticed. I have been with the same guy for over a year and we have not cheated on each other.

Brief Answer:
Molluscum contagiousum & allergic dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello young fellow,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for sending the pictures.

After analyzing the pictures I can make out two important things:

- Molluscum contagiousum: It is a simple viral infection caused by simple skin to skin contact or by sexual transmitted mode.

Clinically the lesions are present as pearly white dome shaped bump on the affected area. The whitish ball coming after extraction is molluscum body.

Most of the time the lesions may resolve by its own but some may remain and can become slightly larger. In these cases once any lesion remains then there is further possibility of more eruptions from one lesion. Therefore in my opinion any of the bump if remaining should be treated properly.

I treat my patient with simple extraction with needle or by Chemical Cautery or by extraction and needling.

There is nothing to be worried about the same and can be very well treated. I suggest you to not pinch, pop or squeeze the area.

For the redness: it appears that you have developed "contact allergic dermatitis" at the areas.

Let me explain you elaborately.

The penile skin is the most thinnest skin in the body and is such a soft and thin skin that even the blood vessels are visible sometimes from our naked eye. Some redness is always present on penile skin.

Adding to it the thinnest skin of the body over glans is also sensitive to the friction plus the chemicals in day to day life. All these factors also lead to the kind of problem which you are facing.

Mild to moderate redness is quite common in this area because of the friction during sexual intercourse or due to masturbation also. Even the condoms are known to produce redness because of the rubber content as well as certain chemicals on the condoms as lubricants and as fragrance.

Many a times certain soaps or deodorants and sanitizers or even wipes or related items can cause redness and irritation over the area.

Now for the remedy part:

- Do cold water compressions for 3-4 times a day. Take a small cotton puff soaked in cold water and apply for 5 minutes each over the penis head. I would have suggested to apply hydrocortisone or fluticasone cream over the red area use of molluscum lesions it is preferred to show a dermatologist which can take a decision for the same.

If there is any burning or irritation then you can take loratadine or levocetrizine for 1-2 times a day.

If you are sexually active then should avoid contact for next couple of days. After that also you do not put more friction over the affected area to avoid further redness.

I hope these information will help you. I will be glad to help you any further.

Thank you for such a detailed answer! I was very worried that I contracted HPV which that cause genital warts. I have just one for question, what about the bump on my circumcision scar? Is that also Molluscum contagiousum? Should my parter be worried also? We have unprotected sex because we both are negative for all STDS. (We both we tested one year ago)

Brief Answer:
Kindly send high resolution pictures of scar area

Detailed Answer:
Hello young fellow,

Welcome again to the forum.

I very humbly request you to send a good resolution close picture of the circumcision area of concern. I tried to magnify in the previous of the pictures which showed only redness and accordingly it was not appearing as wart or molluscum. So kindly send few of the picture of the area specifically magnifying the scalp area.

I highly regret for the inconvenience.

With regards,

Dr Sanjay Kanodia
