Brief Answer:
Ultrasound will show in detail the nature of swelling and help in treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
A bruise in the armpit region and towards your back with a swelling that is painful is most likely of infective or inflammatory origin.

It can be a small infection in the skin or below the skin. Such infections can occur when there is an insect bite and you have scratched the skin due to itching. It might also be an infection under the skin and involving various tissues.

Rarely, there might be a collection in the swollen area due to the infection. A tumor is less likely.

The ultrasound scan of the region is done by using a high frequency probe that will show greater detail of the structures. It shows clearly the size of the area involved and at what level this swelling is placed and if it is involving deeper structures. Any collection and its amount will also be precisely known by ultrasound. This will be a guidance to diagnosis and treatment for your doctor.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
