Question: I have a very light "Irish" skin tone. I am sixty-three and have lived in XXXXXXX New Mexico all my life. I have several large brown age spots some of which have become white crusted and flakey. Is there any cause for concern?

Brief Answer:
Right now, NO... but monitor in future.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these lesions that you have described. They are called actinic keratosis and represent changes caused to the skin by prolonged sun exposure. They are not cancerous just now but can later on develop into cancer. I will advice you to get them examined and followed up by a dermatologist as some may later on transform into cancer of the skin(Squamous skin cancer).

In all, there is no reason to get worried now. Get them monitored by a dermatologist so as to note any problematic changes in future and act promptly. Also, avoid prolonged sun exposure, use solar creams, always stay hydrated and avoid wearing XXXXXXX dresses.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be.
