Question: I think I have peri partum cardiomyopathy instead of costochondritis. I have been feeling very short of breath . Can't breath laying down sitting or standing . Also my heart had been very very rapid in all positions . And abdominal pain and fatigued . Can't even walk out to my mailbox and back . And now I have been getting these headaches with it . Something feels very wrong after having my baby . This started a few weeks after having my baby. I also have chest pain which they said was costochondritis . I had an echo done that said it was normal because my ef was 67 percent. I do have a heart murmer which my doctor explained away to anemia of 11.7, and my potassium is 3.5 calcium 9.2 . Have had this going on now for 8 weeks and the palpitations are getting worse . Can someone please suggests what I should do and does it sound like post partum heart problems ? My thyroid was normal .

Brief Answer:
I think your symptoms are due to anemia & anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hello madam,
I have studied your case and I think that breathlessness with increase heart rate is related to three things.
1. anemia
2. anxiety
3. Pregnancy
Anemia causes heart to work more and so is pregnancy as there is increase fluid volume in the body. Also anxiety is also playing part. I would recommend you to show it to a psychiatrist to make sure that it is not post partum anxiety.
As ejection fraction is good so I think that your heart is working fine.
For anemia take iron ,Folic acid and Calcium supplements.
You should not take too much stress, as pregnancy changes body metabolism according to need of the baby. Since now you are coming out of it soon every thing will be back to normal.
I hope this answer will help you. Let me know if you want to ask any other questions.
thanks.

Doctor i have been taking my blood pressure because I have been getting worse over the last few days . It's low . And I also have a headache that developed yesterday and will not go away . The chest pains are also worse . Mainly on the left side right above my nipple a little over to the center . I already went to a counselor and she said it sounds like it's medical. I went to her about 6 weeks ago .

Brief Answer:
Your pain will improve but slowly

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I think you are too much worried about your heart. As echo is suggesting that ejection fraction is OK and also your blood pressure is not high so there is nothing to be worried about.
For headache and chest pain you should take analgesics. I would also suggest you to show it to psychiatrist again.
Let me know if there us any follow up questions.
Thanks.

You are totally correct . It is just a crappy case of chostochondritis . It is the worst and most painful condition . It's just driving me crazy because the chest pain radiates down and causes belly pain . And I can't breathe with it , makes my chest spasm or it hurts to take a breathe . I am now going onto week nine with this horrible condition . Today I picked up my baby and my chest started hurting again . I read that chostochondritis never goes away is this true ? My professor told me today that she had it for 3 years straight and was convinced she had something else because it was so painful and lingered a long time .
