when in deep sleep my wife suddenly starts feeling suffocated. she wakes up in middle of night as she is unable to breath properly. please suggest what should be done?

Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing to HCM Breathlessness may be psychogenic in nature but first it is necessary to exclude other possibilities. It is important to know about any other known systemic illness,history of similar episodes of breathlessness before and how it gets relieved. At present she need proper clinical examination and investigations. You should take her to a physician for proper check-up. She need investigations like routine hemogram,Random blood sugar(RBS),Liver function test(LFT),Renal function test(RFT),Lipid profile,ECG in all leads.Further investigations can be done if needed.
