What Causes Breathing Difficulty?

Question: My wife is facing difficulty in breathing. She feels she is not getting enough air to breathe. After her 4-5 attempts of deep breathing, she finally feels better. This happens mostly when she is in her room which is not very well ventilated. It just has a air conditioner in the room for air. She doesn't have any major health problems but she is suffering from PCOS. I wonder if that could be the reason. Please suggest.
