What Causes Bony Swelling In The Clavicle?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: I have a 1 1/2- 1 3/4 inch bony prominence at the midline side of my clavical on the right side. At first I barely realized it was there but now the area is larger, easily seen by others, and at times a little sore. All I have been told it is bony and nothing to worry about, but want to know what causes it and treatment if any.

Brief Answer:
Needs further investigation like Xray and MRI.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

There are many different causes for a bony swelling in the clavicle, ranging from infection, tumour, metastases, old healed fracture etc.

It would be wise to get an Xray of the clavicle and if any suspicious diagnosis arises from the same we can get an MRI and biopsy if needed to confirm the origin and activity of the mass.

You can apply ice or hot packs to the painful regions intermittently, whichever offers relief. Take Tablet Paracetamol 500mg twice a day for 5 days.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
