What Causes Body Pain, Fever, Lightheadedness, Weakness And Sinus Drainage?

Question: I am a male, 65 years old. Starting on Friday my whole body started to ache. Over the weekend I had high temperatures, light headedness, very weak, some sinus drainage that makes me cough on occasion. I have thought it may be the flu and I did not get a flu shot. I am thinking it is viral and I will waste a visit to the doctor. Should I visit the doctor?

Brief Answer:
Cotinue with symptomatic treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

I have read your query and will be answered by me.

All your symptoms are likely due to viral infection of sinus ,so you will require symptomatic treatment only.

Since you are feeling much better with over the counter symptomatic treatment, you may wait for couple of more days to get rid off these few remaining symptoms like mild fever, sore joints and sinus. There is NO need of doctor visit at present.

1) Continue to take antihistamines like levocetrizine 10 mg or benadryl twice daily for sinus symptoms.

2) Nebulization with steam inhalation 2 to 3 times daily will be helpful for symptomatic relief.

3) You may continue OTC pain killer whichever you are taking on as and when required basis.

4) Drink plenty of fluids and avoid cold water or any other cold products like ice-cream etc

I will expect that you will feel much better within 2 days with this symptomatic treatment as viral infection does NOT require any antibiotics.

However,if fever does not subside or increases with lightheadness, weakness, jint pain and more sinus symptoms even after 2 to 3 days, then better to visit some nearby doctor for further evaluation.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks and Regards,

Dr.Sandip Kabra
