default
Posted on Mon, 15 Sep 2014
Question: Hi, My 22 months son has starting itching his body, mainly his legs, hands and scalp. This is going on for last 1 month or so.
We use XXXXXXX & XXXXXXX Top to Toe for his bathing and same company's moisturiser and powder after his bath.
Because of his consant itching, he gets small red pimple shape on his body. This is reducing his attention span on other activities. Please advice what to do ?

Brief Answer:
Stop all local applications & antihistamine added

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Understand your son's plights.
Stop ALL shower products...use only water & basin powder or Dove as a cleanser..nothing else. Avoid all perfumes, sprays & other topical applications including oil massage if any.
Take one tablet of levocetrizine (common name XYZAL) at night in a dose of 10mg for next 10 days.
Use a local application of Diprovate RD lotion(betamethasone ready diluted) to the affected parts twice daily for 2-3 day & this should resolve the issue.
If not, then we need to investigate further & best to review with a skin specialist nearest you.
Good Luck & Godspeed!

Thanks for the quick reply. As prescribed we'll stop all local application and start using the Dove. Also will use lotion as prescribed. But I'm little wary of giving a 10mg dose of XYZAL to my 22 month old toddler as we have never given him any tablets. I'll keep you posted on the progress .

Brief Answer:
stop tab..go with cetrizine syp

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

I understand your anxiety & empathize.

Please use a syp. 2.5ml of cetirizine. Do NOT use any tabs. Syrup cetirizine should be effective for the skin rash.
If already used the tablets, no worries, it can serve as a loading dose. But if not, don't go with the tabs & stick with syrup.

Thanks for writing back. Cheers.
