What Causes Bloodshot Eyes?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Nov 2017
Question: This morning, I was working in my yard digging and removing a bush. I labored trying to pull out the deep roots and came in the house exhausted. My eye felt sore and about an hour later I looked in the mirror and saw that it was bloodshot. I thought it might disappear as the day progressed but it is still all red. I just took a photo of it, which I could probably attach if needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at healthcaremagic.

I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
Thank you for the image uploaded as it helps a lot to understand what is going on.

you are having what is called subconjunctival hemorrhage, which is a very common thing and is not dangerous. It will not hurt your eye or your vision and will start to fade gradually by changing color in the next 7-10 days as it usually happens with bruises in your skin.

It is not sure why they happen but probably the pressure in the head while you strain to pull that root might be a possible cause bit nothing to worry as it is not dangerous and there is no treatment needed or available for it. Time is the best treatment.

Normally it doesn't cause eye pain or vision loss or any other complaints so if you develop any of these or other symptoms you will need to see your doctor.

I hope this is helpful to you and answers to your question but please feel free to reply if anymore clarifications are needed related to this.

Kind regards,

Antoneta Zotaj, MD
