Brief Answer:
Very likely this is not dangerous but please see the details below

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking HealthcareMagic.

I read your question carefully and understand your concern.

If you have a bright red eye with no pain or vision loss than this is true that the most likely cause is a blood vessel that might have caused what we call subconjunctival hemorrhage and it is not dangerous at all but improves in a week; no specific treatment is needed in this case.

Blood pressure might increase the risk for these hemorrhages if it is high. If you have blood pressure over 140/90 mmHg you will need to talk with your doctor about treatment for high blood pressure.

In your medical history you mention you take a diuretic, diuretics generally have an antihypertensive effect. You might need to talk about this with your doctor if s/he needs to add another drug for the blood pressure or not.

If your eye is painful or causes vision changes than you will need to see a doctor as soon as possible to rule out more important causes of the eye symptoms in that case.

I hope this is helpful and answers your question but please feel free to contact me if more clarification is needed on this.

Kind regards,

Antoneta Zotaj, MD
