What Causes Blood In Stool?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: I'm a 41 year old female. I take Seroquel (600 mg), Effexor (300 mg), & Adderall (20 mg bid). I have bright red rectal bleeding with BM x2. Also, burning stomac

Today I noticed bright red blood on the toilet paper & in the toilet after my BMs (2). I've also had mild burning in my stomach all day. I've never been diagnosed with an ulcer or hemroids. Do I need to go to the ER?

Brief Answer:
Fiber supplements, Nexium, sigmoidoscopy

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

The burning abdominal pain could be due to increased acidity. You can take Nexium for relief.

Bleeding per rectum is an unrelated issue. There are many different causes for bleeding per rectum.

Some of the common causes of passing bright red blood are hemorrhoids, anal fissure, polyps.
Sigmoidoscopy test may be done to find the cause.
Consult your gastroenterologist for this test.
Till then you can take metamucil.

Regards,
Dr.R.K
