Brief Answer:
different possible causes

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Blood in the stool can be due different causes such as: (A) infection- there would normally be diarrhea along with the blood

(B)hemorrhoids- if there is a history of hemorrhoids , this could be the cause

(C)cancer of the colon- this is a cause that would need to be considered especially if there is no recent scope (eg colonoscopy)

(D)diverticular disease- another common cause. Diverticula are out pockets/out pouches that can form in the colon .

They are not cancerous. These pouches can sometimes become inflamed or infected causing bleeding.

(E)inflammatory bowel diseases such as crohns or ulcerative colitis

(F)benign polyps- these are non cancerous growths in the colon.

These are the more common causes of blood in the stool however to determine the exact cause would require an assessment by your doctor.

If there has been a colonoscopy within the last 5 yrs then cancer is a less likely cause.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
