If its bright red blood on the surface of the stool, hemorrhoids are the most probable reason.
If the blood is mixed with the stool, colon cancercan be the reason.
As you are over the age of 50, every blood in stool case should be checked with colonoscopy.
Please consult your doctor and have it done at first.
If its only hemorrhoids, surgery might be necessary.
