What Causes Blood In Stool Along With Headache And Chills?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Jul 2015
Question: I became ill four days ago. I was very tired, had fever, chills, head ache, stiff neck and diarrhoea. The diarrhoea became quite bad over the next couple of days, I had bouts every time I ate and a number of times through the night. In the past two days it has decreased to about three or four times a day only, is slightly less watery and I have no other symptoms. The only problem is that although I thought my illness was significantly improved I now notice some blood in the diarrhoea. Is this a normal symptom after having such an upset stomach?

Brief Answer:
Acute gastroenteritis;anal fissur/bowel infection causing blood...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the health situation you are going through.

1. Having fever, chills, headache, stiff neck and diarrhea are signs of acute gastroenteritis.

2. The blood you have noticed in the feces might be due to :

- bowel infection (that is causing diarrhea)
- anal fissure which is commonly happening in cases of severe diarrhea

However, I need to know if the blood you noticed was fresh red? mixed with feces?

3. In case you will still notice blood for the next few days, I advise to go to your physician and to run immediate culture of feces to rule out severe bowel infection.

4. For the moment, I advise to:
- keep well hydrated through taking lots of fluids especially water
- take oral rehydration salts (ORS)
- take probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora
- take tasectan or hydramine to stop diarrhea

Hope it was of help! Wish fast recovery!
