What Causes Bloating And Indigestion Post Smoking Withdrawal?

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Dec 2014
Question: I quit smoking 2 months ago and my body has been out of whack ever since. I am having all kinds of stomach issues. I feel very bloated, indigestion, heart burn, and stomach pain. I get full very fast and i am having trouble finishing my food, I recently went 4-5 days with very little bowel movement. I was not constipated or at least the very little stool I passed was loose. Now I am noticing bright red streaks through the loose stool. I am hoping that it is just my body fighting back after 34 years of smoking.

Brief Answer:
Withdrawal.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
First of all congratulations for quitting smoking and giving yourself a new life.
Gastric troubles are common after constipation.
Most of the times, people start having constipation after quitting smoking.
The red streak of blood that you have seen is probably due to constipation causing some tear or hemorrhoids.
I advise following in such situations:
1. To take a combination of Pantoprazole and Domperidone once a day.
2. To take a laxative like Lactulose 30 ml in night for few days.
Very soon, you will get better.
Write to me after 15 days of taking this treatment.
If blood streaks persists even after 5 days , you would require to see a doctor.
If you have any further questions please ask me.
Stay Healthy.
