Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: I'm noticing 2 small blisters at the base of my penis. it's about 2mm in size now and started 2 months ago. I'm worried if it is some sort of STD. First I had one blister around 2 and few weeks ago one more started off nearby. It's not itching and it does not pain.

Thanks for the reply.
I had already attached the pictures under reports section. I will also email it now. The image is a close up shot so it looks bigger ... the blister is actually the size of sesame seed.

Are you sexually active?
Yes

-Do you have single or have multiple sexual partners? Did you had different sexual partner in the past?
I've had multiple partners. Yes I had a different partner 3 months ago.

-When was you last sexual contact?
Around 3 months ago.
Since I noticed this blister I have not had sexual contact.

Brief Answer:
Genital Molluscum contagiosum

Detailed Answer:
Hi. Thank you. I have reviewed the Images.

These lesions are Genital Molluscum contagiosum. Molluscum is caused by a virus called Molluscum contagiosum virus(MCV).

Molluscum lesions are dome shaped, skin coloured papules with central depression/dent. They are usually asymptomatic.

Genital molluscum is an STD. You must have acquired it from someone through sexual contact.

Treatment is simple. They need to be removed Or else they may spread.

Various treatment modalities are:
-Extraction with a needle.
-Radiofrequency cautery ablation.
-Vaporization with CO2 Laser.

I suggest that you visit a nearby dermatologist for the needful.

Thank you doctor.

I was worried it was something more serious like herpes or syphillis. Glad to hear otherwise. I assume your finding is conclusive and I don't have to get tested for herpes or syphilis. Please confirm.

I read a medical article which says Podophyllotoxin cream (0.5%) can be used to cure MCV. Please advice if I can try it.

Finally, any doctor in XXXXXXX you can refer for further treatment. Please let me know.

Appreciate your help in this matter. Thanks

Brief Answer:
STD screening; Visit a dermatologist in vicinity for treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Yes my finding is conclusive as far as the diagnosis of genital molluscum contagiosum is concerned.
Regarding whether you should test for other STD's or not? It is advisable to screen for all STD including HIV even though clinically you don't have any signs or symptoms for other STD's..
I would suggest VDRL for syphilis and ELISA for type 1&2 HSV, IgG and IgM. For HIV I would suggest Antibody and P 24 Antigen test.

Treatment for genital molluscum should be physician applied rather than self treatment as it can lead to side effects.

Unfortunately I don't have any specific doctor's reference in banglore.
You can visit a dermatologist of your own choice in your vicinity as treatment of genital molluscum is very simple and does not require any special expertise.
