default
Posted on Fri, 21 Nov 2014
Question: To my knowledge I do not have diabetes, or high blood pressure. I exercise regularly and am not overweight. I seldom eat sweets. So, at my last eye exam they found a small bleeding at 3:00. What could cause that?

Brief Answer:
The cause depends on the site of bleeding.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to health care magic.

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history.
It seems from the history that you are having a small bleeding spot in the eye.
Please clarify whether the bleeding is inside the eye in the retina or on the eye in the white part of the eye.

If it is on the white part of the eye it is called as subconjunctival hemorrhage. No need to worry about it, it will resolve by itself.
The most common cause is minor injury or rubbing of the eye.
If the bleeding spot is on the retina, it requires evaluation. The common causes are diabetes, hypertension....
Since you are not a known diabetic or hypertensive other causes like vascular diseases, bleeding disorders, vasculitis..... need to be evaluated.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards

Hello,

I do not have any vascular diseases, or bleeding disorders. Could stress cause it? What about the aging process causing it? Could it just be from aging? If I do have diabetes, I would be surprised because I do not have any symptoms. I check my blood pressure at home and it is normal.

Brief Answer:
Pleade tell me the site of bleeding spot.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to health care magic.

Thank you for the follow up question.

Stress or ageing cannot cause red spot. Diabetes even in the absence of symptoms can cause it.

Please mention me whether the red spot is on the surface of the eye on the white part or whether it was told after examination in the inner retina, so that I can advice you regarding further treatment.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards
