What Causes Bleeding From Rectum?

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Feb 2015
Question: Hello. I'm 39 yo and have been bleeding from rectum for 2 days. It is bright red and staining the water. There is no pain except for a mild pain from my stomach. I have been prescribed protonix before but not very compliant. I had external hemorrhoids couple of weeks ago and remedied with witch XXXXXXX pads and it went away. I also had miscarriage 5 days ago. The blood drips even if I'm just sitting in the toilet. There is no pain from external rectum or intestinal area. Is it probably be internal hemorrhoids or effect of the miscarriage? I have an issue of sitting in the toilet for long periods of time even after I'm done (just sitting playing games on phone). I'm afraid it's cronhs or stomach ulcer or worse.. Colon cancer. Please help.

Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for posting your query.

First of all are you sure that bleeding is from your rectum and not from your Vagina. Because the cause and the management is totally different in each case .

Assuming it to be from your rectum there are many conditions which can cause bleeding. With a past history of External hemorrhoids my first suspicion would be either a recurrence of External hemorrhoids or Internal Hemorrhoids.

Miscarriage doesn't cause bleeding from rectum , it causes bleeding from Vagina. That's why I need to know whether you are very sure that bleeding is from rectum.

Don't be negative and think of serious problems like Colon Cancer or Crohns disease. The possibility of Internal or External hemorrhoids is high in you.

You would require a Digital Rectal examination and if its normal a Colonoscopy scan . This will tell us the cause of your problem. But if you are in doubt whether bleeding is from your Vagina or rectum then get an Ultrasound abdomen pelvis scan done and if its normal then go ahead with Colonoscopy.

Hope this information was useful to you .

Any further clarifications feel free to ask .

Regards.
