Question: Hi I've had a hysterectomy 4 wks this Tuesday. Within the last day or so I noticed I can sleep on my belly ! Is this ok to do. Plus I started bleeding midday Friday ,period was due on the 23rd. Or is sleeping on belly the cause?

Brief Answer:
You cannot have periods after hysterectomy

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this bleeding that you have reported. After hysterectomy, it is no longer possible to have periods. Please check with your doctor and make sure this is the procedure you had. Also, sleep as you please as long as it is comfortable. This is not the cause of the bleeding. 4weeks is sufficient long time for healing to have occurred. However, this bleeding might be from the suture points and it should be very minimal. If this is not the case, the seek further examination. If it is, monitor only and it should resolve spontaneously.

Are you in any pains?

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Brief Answer:
I will say observe further for now!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The information doesn’t uncover real red flags. I will recommend that you go ahead and observe only for now. Sleep as you please and if the bleeding becomes heavier or persists, then we will need to seek for examination and investigations then. For now, there is no urgent need for that.

I wish you well and keep me posted.
