Brief Answer: Subungual haematoma, dry gangrene, ? diabetes Detailed Answer: Hi, I'm sorry to hear about you foot and toe. I may need more information or a picture to be able to maximize my ability to help you. If it is just the part of the toe under your nail that has gone black then this is likely a sublingual haematoma or a bruise under the nail that should, as your nail grows, move to the end of the nail and then disappear. If it doesn't do this then you need to seek a consult with your Dr. If it is the whole end of your toe that has turned black then this is more worrying and it sounds like dry gangrene. This is where the blood supply to the end of your toe is no longer viable. You should have this portion of your toe surgically removed or derided, it will likely fall off itself after a period of time but you want to avoid the potential for infection to take hold. It is important to find out why this has happened to your toe and your Dr should do a thorough physical exam checking particularly the pulses in your leg and examining you abdomen for any swelling. You should also have some blood work done including a blood sugar test. The numbness in your foot is also worrying if it is the same foot and this could be caused by an arterial blockage or by nerve compression (in your leg or spine) or damage (diabetic neuropathy). I would encourage you to seek urgent medical attention to have these issues looked at. If you want to send a photo then I could make some further comments and recommendations. I don't mean to scare you and I hope you are OK? Best wishes
