Brief Answer:
Essential Tremor is a good possibility

Detailed Answer:
Good morning. My name is Dr. Saghafi and I am an adult neurologist who takes care of many people who have similar symptoms as to what you describe in your husband. A good possibility is something called ESSENTIAL TREMOR. If your husband has anybody in his family such as a parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt/uncle who ever had similar types of shaking problems then, we might call the problem FAMILIAL ESSENTIAL TREMOR.

You may also find some people calling this BENIGN ESSENTIAL TREMOR, however, many clinicians have chose to drop the word "benign" from the diagnosis simply because the implication of benign is that it is of very little clinical significance or importance and as you state the condition causes your husband to be in a lot of distress causing him not to be able to do things comfortably at all.

You should seek out a good neurologist because your husband will need a thorough neurological examination and possibly some lab testing with imaging studies of the brain to be sure that nothing else could be causing this problem. If it is decided that indeed this is the diagnosis then, there are very effective medication and there is even potentially a surgical procedure for this that works in the majority of patients without much complication or risk...although we hope that your husband responds to medication therapy first and foremost without having to do surgery.

I hope these answers satisfactorily addresses your question. If so, may I ask your favor of a HIGH STAR RATING with some written feedback?

Also, if there are no other questions or comments, would you CLOSE THE QUERY on your end so this question can be transacted and archived for further reference by colleagues as necessary?
