What Causes Anxiety When I Sit After Having Food?

Question: I am a 33yr old male non smoker, drink alcohol on the weekends. I weigh about 165 and I am 5'9 pretty athletic.

In the last 2 months I have had some strange symptoms which I will list:

1. After eating when I am sitting I seem to have high anxiety, just feel uncomfortable like I want to get up but the pulse doesn't raise much.
2. Legs and arms feel little weak but more of precieved weakness I have no issues walking and im not tired at all.
3. I get random pains some are sharp some burn and some causes tingleness. Pain locations are (Left arm bicep/tricep burning sensations, left elbow pain and kinda of feels like it runs down the left side and cause my hand to ACHE and my pinky sometimes will curl up. The right arm does the same burning sensation but doesnt have the hand/finger ache. When that is going on there is no chest pain. At times I get the burning sharp pain on the right side of chest it will be there for like 10 seconds or so and go away then maybe later it might be in the back shoulder blade or on the left chest, nothing ever is crushing or extremely uncomfortable.
4. 1 time I had very rapid heartbeat and went to the ER that was 2 months ago.

Tests that have been ran so far:

1. I have had 3 EKGs all normal
2. I have had a ECHOCARDIOGRAM all normal
3. I have wore a 24hr holter monitor all normal
4. Chest x-ray all normal
5. Heart Attack enzyme test all normal
6. Blood work all normal
7. Abdominal Ultrasounds all normal

Everything symptom I have seem to be located in a location that I can point out its not widespread, only that it jumps around a lot during the day might be in my shoulder blade then go away for 5 mins then my arm starts hurting, just random.

I m just worried that I might be having ANGINA or maybe a neurological issue so I am going to post in the cardio and nuro area. What are you thoughts do you think that this is cardiac related?

Brief Answer:
Does not seem to a serious neurological issue.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and appreciate the detailed description that you have provided.

First of all, I would like to reassure you that these symptoms are not suggestive of angina or any other cardiac disease.

These symptoms appear neurological and can be seen with peripheral neuropathy or radiculopathy (where nerves in the skin or those arising from spinal cord respectively get affected).

If the symptoms are minor, we can wait and watch, however, if they are troublesome, investigations such as MRI of spine, nerve conduction studies, vitamin B12 and D levels in the blood may be done.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Thanks for your reply.

The symptoms are minor but more annoying than anything. Only thing that I needed to add is at times on the top of my head (on the right side middle) I get that stingy sensation at times as well it seems to come and go and the spot of area seems like a medium sized coin.

I am just not a person for over-testing but also not a person that lets things get out of hand just trying to do the right thing.

Brief Answer:
Additional symptoms is also neuropathic.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

I have noted your additional symptom and these also appear related to the minor dysfunction of nerves in the scalp.

I agree with you that there is no need to over-investigate at this stage.

A few investigations, if not already done, such as vitamin B12 level and vitamin D level in blood, and nerve conduction studies could be done at this stage.

Best wishes,

Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
