Posted on Mon, 21 Apr 2014
Question: my age is 47 height 5'3 and i weigh a lil more than i should at 170 but i have a very muscular frame for a woman also ..most of my excess weight is in my abdomen (i am aware it is aka "belly fat") which i am working on decreasing as best as i can . I work about a steady 11 hrs /day 6 days / week on avg. today i am a bit concerned ..this caused me to go get my bp checked at shopppers drug mart near my house on my way home from work .. I just got home now . what i discovered there was my bp is 204/110!! and resting pulse is 123 ..its been like that most of the day as i have checked it several times this afternoon. right now i am sipping on a cup of honey with chunks of fresh ginger and chai tea. Am i experiencing a mere anxiety attack or could there be something else going on. Im otherwise very active and quite healthy !! this has got me a lil shocked as i dont want to have a stroke ...could this be a warning sign that i could have one soon???? im a lil scared right now ...plz help thx ...i really dont want to waste time at a hospital emerg. if its just an anxiety attack ;) im standing by anxiously right now for a professional reply ..on what should i do thx ...

Brief Answer: Follows. Detailed Answer: Dear Madam, Thank you for posting your query on HCM. Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that it is not feasible for anybody to tell whether is is just because of anxiety or some underlying disease without investigating you . Since you got this checked today and incidentally it was found to be more , then the possibilty of it due to anxiety is less likely . I will advise you to see medical help at the earliest . A ECG, 2 D ECHO are highly recommended . Since your resting heart rate is more ,a thyroid profile is recommended . You will require medicien to lower your BP . Whether it could lead to stroke or not cannot be said but definitely the risk is much high . So try to visit a medical facility as soon as possible . Take care. Dr. Shruti

thank you guess i just needed confirmation on what some folks already told me so far ..i didn't want to believe that i needed further medical attn to this, or waste any hospital's time ,but i guess i do ....time for me to do something about it eh?? Im still kind of thinking that this "incident" will resolve itself ...is it possible if i dont go to for medical tests right away ..what possibly are the risks to my health if i dont besides a stroke?? or heart attack ..i know this seems like a strange question ..but ..do u have another answer for this for me ?? besides the obvios risks ive mentioned in this section?? thx ......

Brief Answer: Follows. Detailed Answer: Dear Madam, Even if you dont go for medical tests it needs to be seen whether BP has come down or not , such high levels require some kind of medication to bring them down so any ways you have to go to a doctor for this . Then they will look accordingly in to your case as to when the tests should be done. Such high BP levels can cause injury to any organ in the body because of reduced perfusion , kidney , eyes any organ can be involved . Rest is in your hands but please at least get your BP checked and lowered for this time . Dr. Shruti

okay guess there no real good reason to avoid a doc in some cases like this THAT you have convinced me of for sure lol ..but my cuppa healthy tea that i made just before i inquired on this site ( fresh ginger , i tblsp of honey and chia tea bag has helped me relax a lil ) until i can go to a clinic as i dont have a family doc ..mine retired about 5 years ago . In the process of looking for another one soon since i am aging unavoidably lol. Soooo i guess i am entitled to just one more question before i close this discussion. so things like this are actually my body trying to tell me something serios is going wrong right?? and not to be taken lightly or put off for too much longer IF it becomes an ongoing issue correct ?????????? ..i guess im just trying to get a better perspective on this ...im not use to anything like this happening to myself so yes im struggling a little with accepting it ...thanks for your advice and next reply in advance.....plus i wanna make sure i get my $18.00 worth hehehehe ;) ( a lil humor ) but i am serios cuz i wouldnt have paid that if i wasnt ..im by no means rich in any sense of the word ;) the pharmacist tonight just XXXXXXX me on the head and said go home and relax ..itll pass ..even when i showed her the results and asked her if there was anything over the counter i could take ?? basically telling me its just an anxiety attack ....hmmm **** I was just scared tonight by how it has been making me feel ..especially today and my clients and close friends noticed it too . which is why i couldnt really just pass it off this time ;) ok im done rambling now hehe ill await your next and last reply ..if you have one for this portion ;) hope u do ...............

Brief Answer: Follows. Detailed Answer: Dear Madam, It was nice hearing all these things from you . I also hope it is just anxiety that has lead to all this . But considering everything it is my humble request to be careful about your health and get yourself evaluated . Even if it is anxiety then you must be started on some antianxiolytic like alprazolam for that also you will need to see a doctor .Dont be scared by going to a doctor , think it will resolve any ongoing issue and make you feel much better and full of life . Always eager to help you out. Wish you good health. Dr. Shruti
