What Causes Abdominal Pain With Back Pain?
Question: Moderate to severe abdominal pain on right side extending up into diaphragm. Back pain also on right side. This has been going on for about 6 hours. Had a nap but pain is persistent. Bowel movement has occurred but is not diarrhoea. It has been over half an hour since I posted my question. Symptoms persist.
It has been over an hour since I posted my initial question. Some of the symptoms have begun to subside (continued abdominal pain, distended stomach) but not the acute paid I experienced for several hours. Back pains have also abated to a degree. When might I expect a response?

Apart the symptoms you are experiencing, may I ask if you are also having:
- fever?
- headache?
- urinary tract problems: burning/pain while/after urinating?
- are you having discharge from your genitalia?
- are you having nausea? or any other symptom?
- do you suffer of any other disease: diabetes? hypertension? cardiac problems?
- are you taking any medication on regular basis? at the moment?
- how can you describe the pain apart being acute: unbearable? related to food/drinks?
For the moment, I advise to take mephenamic acid or ibuprofen for the pain.
I also advise to :
- have light meals
- take probiotics
- increase water intake with Oral rehydration salts

No fever, headache or urinary tract infections (I had a radical prostatechomy 8 months ago and I am scheduled for a cystoscopy on Wednesday to ensure scaring of the bladder has not occurred), no discharges, mild nausea and no diseases (cancer is no longer an issue). I take medication for cholesterol (Lipitor 10 mgs) . The pain was very severe some hours ago but in the last 90 minutes has subsided greatly. I took tea and toast with little side effect.

As you are taking Lipitor for high cholesterol, my doubts go for possible cholecyst issues:
- stones
- sludge
- infection/inflammation
A further abdominal ultrasound is advised to evaluate the status of cholecyst and pancreas/liver/kidney for final conclusions.
For the moment, I advise to take:
- mephenamic acid to relieve pain
- have light meals
- avoid oily/salty/chilly foods
- avoid carbonated drinks
- eat often and small portions
