Posted on Wed, 15 Apr 2015
Question: I have not been feeling well for months and have recently found out I have increased CA-125 and CA 19-9 levels (both read 45). Abdominal pain, pain in stomach when I eat, weight loss, acid refux, extreme fatigue, flu like symptoms and fogged thinking. I also have been diagnosed with endometriosis with a bilateral hemorrhagic adnexal masses measuring 2.3 cm on right and 1.6 cm on left along with small foci on left. i also have a 2.7 cm fibroid on the left lower uterine segment. Should I be concerned that I have cancer?

Brief Answer:
Could be ovarian or pancreatic cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Since you are having abdominal pain ,weight loss, acid reflux, extreme fatigue, flu like symptoms and your Ca 125 and Ca 19-9 are increased than normal level and MRI pelvic area showed endometriosis with a bilateral hemorrhagic adnexal masses i would advise you to do a PET scan.

If any space occupying lesion with increased fluorodeoxyglucose activity is found in the scan which is increased in pancreatic or ovarian cancer then biopsy has to be done from the lesion to rule out malignancy.

I would advise you to go to ER and do the PET scan immediately.

Dr. XXXXXXX De,

Thank you for the reply. I have talked with my obgyn and she has advised me that I should not be concerned.

I have asked for your advice because I feel that she is wrong. The issue is knowing the hospitals where I am they will send me home.

I am so confused. This could be life or death eventually for me.

Brief Answer:
Repeat blood tumour marker test Ca 125 and Ca 19.9 after 3 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Though your obgyn has advised you not to be concerned, I will still advise you to repeat blood tumour marker test Ca 125 and Ca 19.9 after 3 weeks. If it is increasing in level then you must go to a center where Pet scan is done.

Since you are having symptoms of weight loss, fatigue and abdominal pain it is necessary for you to do a biopsy test from any space occupying lesion found in the scan to rule out ovarian and pancreatic cancer.

If you have no more clarifications then please rate the answer and close the thread.

Wishing you good health.
