What Causes A Painful Rash In The Armpit?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Dec 2016
Question: Hi, im a 30 yr old white male in california. I drink/party on weekends and occasionally socially smoke, but am otherwise healthy. I have not been sexually active since july.

About two weeks ago, i had a painful rash in my armpit. I stopped using deoderant so aggressively, and the pain subsided. Then i noticed several red bumps under both of my arm pit. I thought nothing of the bumps until i noticed the same types of bumps near my genitals - around my pubic region and on my thighs. I went to a doctor who prescribed nizoral shampoo.

I've used the nizoral three times now on the bumps have gotten much worse and have spread, especially on my groin. For the entire year of 2015, i had molloscum contagiosum on my groin. I have been clear of molloscum since january 2016. I have two questions:

A. Could this be molloscum returning? Maybe from an old deoderant stick? The bumps look different this time.

B. Could the be herpes? Please note the bumps are not at all painful.

Brief Answer:
As mention below

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear
Welcome to HCM and thanks for the query
I understand your concern

A. Molluscum contagiosum does not remain in the body when the growths are gone from the skin and will not reappear on their own.
So chance of the Molluscum contagiosum is very rare.

It could be due to folliculitis, jock itch, contact dermatitis (deodorant stick), syphilis.

Detailed examination by the dermatologist and investigations like STD screening test, KOH mount and skin biopsy will help in the diagnosis.

B. It is not herpes as bumps are very painful in the herpes infection.
