What Causes A Lump In The Neck And Low Grade Fever?

default
Posted on Fri, 16 Sep 2016
Question: Hi,
I have pain at the top of my neck/base of my skull off to the right. It feels like a lump, and hurts when I touch it, or turn my head. Over the past three months I've had an unexplained low-grade fever for which blood work doesn't provide answers. Other possibly related/possibly not related items - weight gain with no reason, vision decrease, problems swallowing, and short-term memory problems. Possibly more issues but I can't remember (hehe - patient humor :)). Seriously, I've had aches and pains my whole life as I was an athlete, but recent problems I can't relate to anything.

Brief Answer:
Needs clinical evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Health Care Magic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns.

There are two issues mentioned here: the lump in your neck, and the low grade fever. The later one concerns me more. Tuberculosis can present with low grade fever and therefore I would strongly suggest that you visit a doctor again and get yourself clinically evaluated (no, unfortunately few weeks will be quite delayed in this scenario).

The lump needs to be examined too. It is not clear from the description whether the lump could actually be an enlarged lymph node; if it is, it increases the possibility of tuberculosis.

I do not mean to frighten you but you should visit a doctor.

Please let me know if there's any further queries.

Regards
