What Causes A Hypoglycemic Episode In A Type-1 Diabetic?

default
Posted on Fri, 28 Aug 2015
Question: I am a type 1 diabetic and experienced a hypoglycemia episode while I was walking this morning. When I returned home I tested my blood sugar and it was 59. I drank a soda and felt fine. However, about 5 minutes later I experienced strong tingling in my legs and pelvic region for about 30 minutes. This has never happened before. I have been a diabetic for 9 years. Should I be concerne3d?

Brief Answer:
This is usual in those who take insulin or sulfonylurea.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. It is usual to get at least a hypoglycemic episode in those who taking insulin. Sulfonylurea group drugs also can cause this. There can be a period of well controlled sugar in some diabetic patients with out needing drugs. But this won't last longer. Monitoring of blood sugar , HBA1C and readjustment of drug dosage will be helpful for this.

In such episodes you can use a sugar candy or fruit juice to get rid off hypoglycaemia.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
