Question: my husband has left ventricular heart failure. he is 50 years old and also has afib. when he was first diagnosed his EF was 21 percent ...it is now 38 percent....he will not let me go to the dr with him so this is all i know. i know you can not say for sure but with this type of diagnosis would you suggest to this patient not to make major purchases for example buying a new house with a big mortgage. i just need to know considering this info i don't want to find myself alone with out his income and a new house. just your opinion i understand it isn't definitive. or am i overthinking. he is currently on elequios and some other heart failure medicines. but he is still 50 lbs overwight and is a heavy drinker

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma'am

After going through the medical details provided by you I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that with the advances in medical science a middle aged patient with heart failure and AF can also lead a good life (not normal though ) provided he or she should take proper precautions.

In your husband's case as there is an improvement in his case reflected by his improving LV function but if he won't take proper precautions and keep on drinking then the prognosis won't be favourable.

Your concern regarding his expenditure is genuine and you can sit and discuss this with him calmly and patiently.

I hope this information will answer your query.

Kind Regards
