What Cause Itching Of Nipple?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Jun 2014
Question: I am a 36 y/o male & am experiencing an occasionally itchy nipple. Only one, and only in one area of it (around the top, the edge of the areola). The itchy area is a lighter color than the rest of the nipple. There's no pain, redness, or lump, only a mild itch accompanying the lighter color. It's been this way for nearly a year.

Brief Answer:
Due to eczema.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
In all likelihood, you are suffering from eczema of the nipple. Due to constant itching and scratching, the skin becomes inflamed due to which there can be a slight color change in the area.
The following measures will help:
a. Only wear cotton innerwear
b. You can apply Nipcare cream or a moisturizer over the area after cleansing it properly with warm water and savlon.
c. Also use Benadryl syrup 2 tsp twice daily for 5 days to stop the itching.
In case there is any palpable lump under the area or pain then a direct examination is needed for proper diagnosis.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
