default
Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: I am 15 weeks pregnant and just slipped down a small flight of stairs in the front of my building. I landed on my butt and back. I have no spotting or anything but am super anxious and nervous. Do you think everything it okay? I'm 28 years old and this is my first pregnancy

Brief Answer:
Recommended a screening ultrasound scan to confirm the fetus is safe

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Sorry to hear about your fall and hope you are not having much pain or discomfort. Regularly I come across patients with mild injury like the one you have. While the injury mentioned by you seems to be a trivial one, the symptoms experienced by you might vary.

As you have no had spotting, I pray everything is alright with the fetus growing inside you.

At times, the spotting can take a while to show up with the rare possibility of a concealed hemorrhage which does not show any external signs of bleeding.

Though there is less chance of anything that might have occurred, it will help to do a screening ultrasound scan just to be double sure your baby is safe inside. This will also help to maintain your peace of mind.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Wishing you a quick recovery.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek

Thanks for the response. If I am not bleeding right now and have no other symptoms besides a sore butt from the actual fall, do I need to go to the ER today or can I wait to schedule an appointment on Monday (or Tuesday if they are closed because of the holiday)?

Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
If not bleeding then its alright to wait until Monday or Tuesday

Detailed Answer:
Hi Horman XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.

Since there is no bleeding therefore you can wait until Monday or Tuesday when the clinic opens again after the weekend break.

However please keep watch for even the slightest spotting if it occurs. The muscle pain might cause you little discomfort and you can apply ointments containing muscle relaxants and pain relievers and use hot or cold packs on your lower back.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
