Brief Answer: Most likely due to I pill. Detailed Answer: hello and welcome to health care magic. I am Dr Madhuri and will be answering your query. It would have helped to know the date when your period started. I presume that 7th feb was most likely the 4th or 5th day. Not more than the 7th day. If it was earlier than day 7 starting form the first day of menses, chances of pregnancy are very very low almost zero. If sex was later than 7-10 days after the last period then chances are there. Sex during menses is safe as there is no chance of ovulation at that time and also the endometrium is shedding so the baby cannot implant there. However a small risk of developing endometriosis is there if sex is during the period as the menstrual blood may flow inside the abdomen and start growing there. So we advice to avoid sex during first 3-4 days of periods. This bleeding may be due to the I pill or other causes like cervical polyps, fibroids or cervical erosion. Infections may also lead to brown discharge. I suggest that you get a urine pregnancy test done 7-10 days later. If it is negative, wait for the period for another cycle. If the symptoms recur, then you need an evaluation. They will most likely not recur. So do not worry. Stress also delays periods. The most likely cause is I pill. Just wait for a few more days. You may visit a gynecologist earlier if you want and get evaluated for infections or other causes like polyp or erosion. If the periods continue to be delayed a hormonal profile and ultrasound will be needed. Hope this satisfies your query. Thanks for using HCM. Feel free to ask any more questions that you may have. Brief Answer: It is not pregnancy. Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome back. You had sex on 7th so it was day 4 of the cycle. There is no chance of pregnancy. So do not worry about it. Your urine test is also saying the same. Regarding infection and erosion: Erosion is the replacement of the normal lining [epithelium ] of the cervix by another type of lining. It may occur due to infection. The new lining is more friable and may cause bleeding and discharge. It is may be caused by infection or contraceptive pills. Another infection is infection of the vagina or uterus or tubes and ovaries. Infections of vagina produce discharge that is usually white or creamy. Infections of uterus produce foul smelling copious discharge. Infection of tube will produce pain. Any of these two may produce fever. So check if you have any foul smelling discharge or backache or fever. Since you have not mentioned these in your history, I thought that these were less possible. Erosion however may produce discharge and can be treated by antibiotics or vaginal tablets. Most of these infections are treatable and will not affect future childbearing if treated early. About polyp: These are tumors of the cervix similar to fibroids and are mostly small sometimes may grow big. They are caused by estrogen excess. Similar excess over growths of the uterine lining are called endometrial polyps. They are also produced by estrogen excess. They are not related to sex and cause irregular bleeding and discharge. Both of these are diagnosed by looking at the cervix. An endometrial polyp will need a ultrasound. The most likely cause in your case seems to be the emergency contraceptive pill that delayed the period. They are known for this. Please do not worry. See a doctor and get an examination and and ultrasound to rule things out as doubts are bad for mental peace. Going by your history, pregnancy is not there. Your doctor may prescribe a course of progesterone if needed to induce periods and a course of antibiotics. So take them so that any infection gets covered. You seem to be very worried. Please do not do this. It is not a big thing and will just need minor treatment. Hope I was able to help you. I am here for any further queries. Take care and do not worry. Dr Madhuri.
