Question: wHAT ARE THE SYMPTONS OF THE FLU? I AM A 67 YR OLD FEMALE AND I HAVE BEEN SICK FOR THE PAST 8 DAYS WITH WHAT STARTED OUT AS A SORE THROAT, BUT IT WAS LOCATED HIGH UP IN THE BACK OF MY THROAT SO IT DIDN'T HURT WHEN I SWALLOWED FOOD. MY HEAD WAS HEAVY WITH CONGESTION BUT I DIDN'T HAVE A RUNNY NOSE NOR WAS I SNEEZING YET. I DO HAVE A DRY HACKING COUGH, AND BODY ACHES MOSTLY IN MY UPPER & LOWER LEGS. I HAVE NO FEVER, NO NAUSEA & NO CHANGE IN BOWEL HABITS. ONE SIGNIFICANT SYMPTON IS THAT SINCE MONDAY I HAVE COME DOWN WITH LLARYNGITIS, & STILL HAVE IT. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL, I HAVE HAD NO FEVER, I TRIED TO TAKE MY TEMP THE OTHER DAY WITH A DIGITAL THERM. UNDER MY TONGUE & IT CAME BACK NORMAL. AS OF YESTERDAY THE CONGESTION IS STARTING TO LOOSE UP & I HAVE STARTED TO HAVE A RUNNY NOSE ALONG WITH SOME SNEEZING, BUT I STILL HAVE THE HACKING COUGH & THE LEG CRAMPS. THIS IS DAY 8 ALREADY WITH NO CHANGE TO SPEAK OF. I HAVE NOT HAD A FLU SHOT. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY OTHER ?'S YOU MIGHT HAVE. THANK YOU MERY MUCH. XXXXXXX XXXX

I have completely reviewed your health query, and can well realize all those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will give extend my expertise to solve the problems.

What happened to you is you got a viral infection of the respiratory system and that didn't heal up on its own (which is usually expected in such cases). Now it has been secondarily infected by the bacteria.

You need to go for proper treatment including antibiotics to get rid of it. If I was your treating physician I must have prescribed you with:
Azithromycin if not allergic to.
Ibuprofen.
Fexofenadine.
Cough Linctus .

Take plenty of water and proper rest. Do gargles with Scope or Listerine.
Do nasal douches with saline lukewarm water.
Keep a balanced and healthy diet.
Immunity Booster foods good for you are:-
Citrus
Red Bell Peppers
Broccoli
Garlic
Ginger
spinach
almonds
Yogurt
Cashew
Turmeric
Green Tea
Berries
Citrus fruits
Kiwi
Apples
