You are wondering what the symptoms for a rotator cuff tear. The usual mechanism of action to cause a rotator tear is a sudden twisting of the shoulder. It causes pain all around the shoulder but mostly on the top part. There will be pain on rotating the shoulder inwards and outwards. There is usually no swelling or bruising since the tear is deep in the joint. The best way to diagnose a rotator cuff tear is with an MRI. Physical exam is not very reliable. Treatment is usually geared to toward rehabilitation. through physical therapy. Surgery is done but only as a last resort since the pain is still present after surgery and therapy is still mandated
