Question: Hi i have been spotting a bit. I have recently been having my annual pap smear together with a hpv test which both came back negative . I on on birth controll pills..i have taken this kind for almost 4 month the first month i spotted some but nothing for the next two. Could this again be because of my birth controll pills. Or should i suspect something else. I have very heavy flow during my menstrual period. I take a pill called triquilar.

Brief Answer:
In all probability due to the pill.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Well, most likely the spotting is because of the birth control.
This is because the Pap in January recently came out negative.
Other factors which might cause erratic spotting - stress, anxiety, unaccustomed exercise, weight changes, travelling, late nights, erratic eating habits, smoking, drinking etc.
If the spotting is persistent and very bothersome, you can have an internal evaluation and a pelvic ultrasound scan ( as you recently had the Pap ).
But , I am 90 % sure it is in all probability due to the pill.
It is very common while on the pill.
All the best

Brief Answer:
Can switch if it is very bothersome.

Detailed Answer:
I am sure you can rely on the HPV and recent Pap, it was as recent as January, so that is reliable.
If the spotting is very bothersome, yes, you can consider an alternative method.
