Question: Hi, I have taken Toprol XL, 50 mg for about 15 years. Along with Lotrel 5/20 mg my blood pressure has been controlled very well. Recently the company that fills my metoprolol changed pharmacies and they gave me Supermet XL, 50 mg. About the same time (mid December, 2014) I was prescribed Wellbutrin, 150 mg once daily for a mild depression I could not seem to shake off. It seemed to be helping with no apparent side effects and I was pleased...until at 1:30 a.m. one night in mid January, 2015 I was surprised to see a car drive up in my driveway and out came 6-8 men dressed in green and white striped prison suits and began working on a fence row between my house and my neighbors. I've worked nights in the past and I'm usually awake...I opened the door, asked the men what they were doing. They looked at me but did not speak. I tried my best, but they just weren't in the mood to talk. Couple of nights later, the children of the corn showed up...same thing...just looked at me, wouldn't talk. Next night I woke up, my ex husband was standing by my bed holding up a jar of Nutella. I asked him what he was doing. He set the jar down and left quietly...no talking. Next morning I stopped taking the Wellbutrin...no more night visitors or hallucinations. Until Supermet XL. After about 2 weeks I became convinced my oldest daughter and her husband were planning on having me nonvoluntarily committed to a mental hospital. After being told many times they were not, I decided to ignore people who I thought were calling from local hospital mental departments to tell me they were coming after me (no one sang "ha ha, ho ho, hee
hee"). After I began ignoring these calls, the delusions began to lessen. I have noticed however, that during the night I wake up to one or two calls...less severe, but still troubling. I think this might provide your Thursday night with a little humorous sidetrip. Actually, I think it's pretty hilarious, too...that is, unless it's not medication side effects. I had always taken AstraZeneca metoprolol. Do you think this side effect could be partially caused by the confusion and hallucinations that Supermet XL may cause and could be possibly exacerbated by the recent wellbutrin episodes? I am a 66 year young woman in good health otherwise. I'm countin' on you, Doc to tell me "yep, that's it" and "no way is this a shining example of early senility".
