Brief Answer:
probably there is need of reducing dose of paroxetine, provide more info

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us.

You have been on paroxetine controlled release 12.5 mg tablet since 14 months for some psychiatric problem.

This medicine can cause sedation. If your psychiatric problem is treated since more than 6 months there is need of reducing the dose of paroxetine.

Normally an adult person requires 6-8 hours of daily sleep.

To provide more help I would like to know some more information from your side.

- For which problem have you started this medicine?Describe some symptoms of that problem or diagnosis?

- Since when are you suffering form excessive need of sleep?

- What is your daily routine schedule? Work, study , meal timing etc.

- At which time are you taking Pexep Cr 12.5?

- Is your sleep is refreshing and are you able to do daily routine normally?

Waiting for information from your side to help you further.

Regards,
Dr.,Chintan Solanki.

Brief Answer:
Take night meal early and Take night dose early

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for information.

Pexep is good drug for OCD. However most of the psychiatrist use fluoxetine or fluvoxamine as first choice. As you have problem of sleep after starting medicines , it is likely due to pexep.

If your OCD is under control since more than 6 months,I think we can reduce morning dose or even can stop morning dose. And later on night dose should also be stopped.

For a while you should take night meal early if possible around 8.30. Do not take heavy meal at night. Our digestive system takes two hour approximately to digest food. If you take meal late, digestion will be late and you have to sleep late.If you can shift your timing of night dose 1-2 hours earlier around 9 pm you can wake up early even after sleeping at 12.

By chance if it is not feasible to stop morning dose pf pexep, shifting to fluoxetine will help. Fluoxetine's half life is long so there will be no need of pexep night dose also if fluoxetine dose is adjusted accordingly. This can also solve your excessive sleep problem.

Hope I have answered your query, feel free to discuss further.

Dr.Chintan Solanki
