What Are The Side Effects Of Fentanyl Patch?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Mar 2015
Question: Ok. I asked a different Dr but he didn't give me a straight answer. So we'll try this. Ok I am no longer an addict. And I cant stand when doctors speak to you that way when you're a recovering addict. Please treat me with some respect. My dad gave me the patch because its all he had left that would help. It was our last resort. I also have a very dry mouth no matter how much I drink and my hands are shaking. Im very weak and a little disoriented. What I'm asking is, are these normal side effects of a fentanyl patch or is it symptoms of overdose? If its symptoms of overdose, should I go to the hospital or no? And if they're normal side effects, about how long until they either away? (I took the patch off about 9/10 o'clock this morning. Please HELP me. Im scared. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
48-72hours would be enough time.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. They are well known side effects of fentanyl and would soon fade with time. Because you took this medication just once, they would not last longer than 72 hours. Dry mouth, dizziness, sleepiness, etc are all known side effects of fentanyl. Overdose with the patch is rare. Drink as much water as possible, take fruits, rest and all would be okay. There is no point in going to the ER at this time as what you need is time and not any other magical pill to resolve the symptoms.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Ok. One last question. If my body is immune to anti inflammatory, would taking my dilaudid 4mg pills benefit my pain at all within the next 48-72 hours? I know Fentanyl is a significantly stronger narcotic than dilaudid. So I'm wondering if it would even work with the fentanyl still in my system??

Brief Answer:
What do you mean by being immune to anti-inflammtory?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Please, what do you mean by being immune to anti inflammatory?

Unless you are in severe pain, I will recommend you hold on with dilaudid as it may potentiate the side effects of fentanyl. They all have similar side effects but as you rightly mentioned, fentanyl is a more powerful pain drug.

I wish you well.
